PSC celebrates CIGRE’s Distinguished Member award
May 12, 2020

Richard Adams

PSC is proud to announce that Principal Engineer Richard Adams has been awarded CIGRE’s “Distinguished Member” honor.

CIGRE grants seven kinds of distinctions in recognition of services rendered by its members. Introduced in 1996 and given out every two years, the “Distinguished Member” title is granted to long-standing members who have contributed to the Association through participation in technical work or work within National Committees.

Richard has been an active participant in CIGRE’s UK National Committee since 2003. His dedication is illustrated in many ways. He was the UK Regular Member for Study Committee B5 (Protection & Automation) from 2004-2012. Richard received CIGRE’s Technical Council Award in 2011 for his contribution to SC B5. He was also the Advisor for Advisory Group 53 from 2008-2018. He has authored technical papers and was one of 30 experts from around the world who contributed to CIGRE’s B3 Green Book, Substations.  Today Richard is the webmaster and Secretary for SC B5, a role he has held since 2018.

We are proud to celebrate this recognition with Richard! He joins PSC’s Dr. Zia Emin who was given this honor by CIGRE in 2014. These acknowledgments underscore PSC’s global values of collaboration and exercising our passion for the electric utility industry.

These awards are normally presented at the bi-annual CIGRE Session in Paris.  Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Paris Session has been postponed until 2021 when it will hold its 100th Anniversary Centennial celebration at the Palais des Congrès in Paris, France in late August.

At the end of 2018, CIGRE had nearly 8,800 individual members, 1,700 student members, and 1,300 collective members in more than 95 countries.
