We are pleased to share the latest edition of our quarterly newsletter, offering expert insights from PSC’s global energy specialists—carefully curated for professionals like you.
In this issue, our senior advisory consultants provide an in-depth analysis of the recent Iberian Peninsula blackout, highlight key learnings from major industry events, recognize outstanding achievements within our team, and introduce new colleagues joining PSC—along with additional updates and perspectives.
If you would like to contribute an article to the PSC News, we invite you to reach out to Matt Robinson, Head of Strategy at PSC Group.
PSC’s senior strategic advisory consultants analyzed the recent Iberian Peninsula blackout, one of the most dramatic in European history, drawing on findings from MITECO and REE. The April event affected Spain, Portugal, and parts of France, disrupting power for extending periods and impacting critical infrastructure.
With Spain’s grid heavily reliant on renewable energy sources, the authors explored both the causes and control room strategies that could prevent future incidents. Their insights highlight the importance of resilient systems and informed response planning in increasingly complex energy markets.
The PSC team had a fantastic time attending the 2025 EEA Conference in Christchurch in September, where they networked with industry peers, shared and gained insights, presented a session in the main program, and discussed the future of energy together. A big shoutout to our team members who represented PSC at the event: Dylan Jenkins, Ray Young, Justin Webster, Adithya Murthy, and Una Drayton — along with our General Managers Kavi Singh and Guy Debney.
Dylan Jenkins and Adithya Murthy delivered a session at Transpower New Zealand’s Protection Applications With Success (PAWS) event in July, to share insights and connect with Aotearoa’s protection and automation community.
In June, our PSC team had the privilege of touring the University of Auckland—immersing themselves in pioneering research spanning Digital Substations, HVDC, and DERMS. A highlight was experiencing the Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) firsthand, a remarkable platform advancing solutions for the complex challenges facing today’s energy sector.
James Wilson recently represented PSC at the IEEE Power & Energy Society General Meeting in Texas, presenting research on adapting Power Quality standards for fully renewable, large-scale grids with HVDC integration and complex loads. Many thanks to PSC co-author Kah Leong Koo and co-authors Dr. Roshan Bhattarai and Syed Mushtaque Ahmed for their valuable contributions.
PSC moved to a new office in Auckland, New Zealand recently, allowing us to strengthen our regional presence and better support our clients across New Zealand! Thanks to everyone who joined us for the opening night!
