An excellent opportunity for a technically-oriented, enthusiastic engineer with 2 to 5 years of relevant power systems studies experience to join the team in either our Boston, USA or Vancouver, Canada-based system studies teams. The Candidates’ primary expertise should be in power system analysis and studies that model the behaviour of power systems and their various components under steady state and perturbed conditions. The candidate must be prepared to travel up to 10% of the time in North America.


The intermediate power system studies engineer will conduct a variety of assignments under the supervision of Senior or Principal Engineers.  These include:

  • Classical power system analysis & modeling including: load flow, transient stability, short-circuit analysis, and small signal assessments
  • Power generation and transmission studies such as: generator connections, voltage stability, arc-flash energy studies, insulation coordination, feasibility studies, power station and control system design, and network planning
  • Operations planning including: short-term assessments, switching studies and incident investigations
  • Steady-state and transient development, testing, and field validation of the performance of generator control models
  • Preparation of long-term, multi-scenario network development plans
  • Preparation of detailed technical reports
  • Global interaction with PSC colleagues to coordinate and execute studies
  • Manage client expectations through regular communications and responsiveness


  • The candidate’s experience should consist primarily of North American public or investor-owned electric utilities either as an employee or a consulting engineer
  • Undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in power systems
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to deliver high-quality technical reports and communicate and collaborate with global system studies team
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to work to tight deadlines
  • 2 to 5 years of system studies experience using Siemens-PTI’s PSS/E network simulation software (loadflow, short circuit and dynamic simulation modules) and EMTDC/PSCAD
  • Registered professional engineer in a US state, or a Canadian province, or eligible to do so
  • Legally authorized to work in the US and/or Canada with no restrictions on travel within North America


  • Post-graduate degree in Electrical Engineering with a specialization in power systems preferred
  • Skills in other commonly used network simulation software (e.g., MUST, TARA, PSLF, ASPEN, DSATools, Powerworld, EMTP RV, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory)
  • Python scripting skills
