Senior Power Systems Engineer - Role Summary

PSC has a team of passionate experts and we have exciting opportunities for the right people to join our dynamic, client-focused company. With the expansion of our business in Europe, PSC is looking for a senior level power systems engineer with primary expertise in power system modelling, study and analysis to join us in Warwick, UK.


  • Provide technical expertise and support to a variety of projects from LV to EHV during conceptual, feasibility, planning and design stage
  • Perform modelling, study and analysis on power systems covering steady-state (load flow, short-circuit studies), dynamic stability, electromagnetic transients and power quality (harmonics, unbalance, voltage fluctuation, filter design), power electronics controls
  • Develop expertise and keep up to date with new developments in industry standard software packages (e.g. PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD, ATP/EMTP, EMTP-RV, etc)
  • Identify innovative working practices within power system study area and suggest new methodologies to tackle them
  • Actively pursue and co-author articles and/or papers with clients in peer reviewed journals and conferences
  • Take technical responsibility for projects within the Power Networks group
  • Manage projects assigned to the employee, including the management of costs to budget, schedule and quality
  • Assist with preparing tender submissions and proposals

and Work Experience

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar numerical background; specialization in power systems is preferred
  • Work experience in public or investor-owned electric utilities and vendors either as an employee or a consulting engineer
  • 2 to 5 years of system studies experience (loadflow, short circuit and/or dynamic simulations)
  • Study experience in other areas (switching transients, power quality) will be a bonus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to deliver high-quality technical reports and communicate and collaborate with global system studies team
  • HVDC knowledge and experience would be an additional bonus, but not essential
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to work to tight deadlines
  • Registered chartered engineer or working towards becoming chartered
  • Legally authorized to work in the UK
