Role Summary

The Principal Engineer will provide technical leadership to a team of consultants within the Power Networks Business Unit in North America and help secure specialist study work through industry participation and by leveraging the existing network. As part of a global company, the Principal Engineer will also provide sales support and technical guidance to PSC Group clients, consultants, and management.

This position can be located out of Vancouver, BC or Westborough, MA. A remote position will be considered for exceptional candidates.


As an expert with extensive experience in the study and detailed modeling of electricity networks and their constituent parts, the Principal Engineer is responsible for all technical leadership activities associated with Specialist Studies work. 

The Principal Engineer will:

  • Act as a PSC subject matter expert and technical authority on the field of specialist power system studies;
  • Support the development of PSC skills, capabilities and service offerings aligned with market requirements through internal development and market engagement;
  • Support sustainable revenue growth from a diverse group of North America based clients in a way that is consistent with PSC’s strategic principles and corporate objectives;
  • Support other PSC regions in the development of regional markets and capabilities.

People management

  • Provide ongoing technical and professional guidance to individual team members;
  • Prepare and deliver specialist industry training and coaching to Power Networks consultants in line with individual and company objectives.

Consulting services

  • Engage with key technical people within client organizations to ensure PSC services are meeting client expectations;
  • Independently complete complex consulting projects that fall within the Power Networks service offering;
  • Act as technical lead and/or reviewer for consulting engagements within the Power Networks service offering;
  • Coordinate and finalize the delivery of complex engineering consulting advice requiring multiple consultants from within the PSC Group;
  • Manage time, scope and budget of assigned jobs; and
  • Support and enable revenue growth in other PSC regions by providing specialist advice as and when requested. 

Business development and sales

  • Support achievement of revenue and sales targets for the specialist studies offering;
  • Identify and develop opportunities within PSC’s existing and potential client base;
  • Prepare methodologies and hours estimates for service proposals;
  • Develop relationships within existing and prospective PSC client organizations that can benefit from the specialist studies service offerings;
  • Support the pursuit of global opportunities that require PSC expertise located in North America;
  • Support the identification and qualification of market trends that require specialist studies services; and
  • Support the development of relevant marketing materials that reflect the specific and evolving needs of the North America market


  • Ability to travel extensively throughout North America (and globally as needed), occasionally working evenings and weekends as needed for special assignments
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 40 lbs
  • Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is primarily required to sit or stand at a work station while operating a computer, phone, and other office equipment. The employee is required to communicate: speak, write, type and hear

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required with a preference for specialization in power systems
  • Doctorate degree in power systems preferred, or equivalent expertise developed through extensive experience in power system modeling 
  • A registered professional engineer in a US state/Canadian province or eligible to do so
  • Recent experience leading and performing complex studies using models of the North American ISO and TO networks
  • Experience interacting with stakeholders
  • Highly proficient, expert user of EMT simulation software with at least 15 years of experience performing a range of studies including insulation coordination, switching studies, power quality studies, dynamic performance studies, and forensic studies.
  • Experience in developing dynamic models for generator controls and HVDC stations.
  • Skills in commonly used network simulation software (Eg. PSSE, PSLF, ASPEN, DSATools, Powerworld, EMTDC/PSCAD, EMTP RV, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory)
  • Legally authorized to work in the US or Canada with no restrictions on travel between Canada and the US
